OUR STORY

La abuela Carmela with her sons and daughter, 1976.

La abuela Carmela with her sons and daughter, 1976.

Lavuela opened its doors for students in July 2017 as an initiative of Melissa, the owner’s granddaughter. Her grandmother lived in the building as a young woman.

The project’s name is a play on words: abuela is Spanish for grandmother and also alludes to taking flight.

We want you to feel as if you’re visiting your own grandmother’s home, welcome and comfortable, ready to explore this beautiful city.
